Education for all
Every child deserves a great education.
ACT Labor believes in public education. Teachers change lives, and we believe in paying our teachers properly, and making public schools great places to work and learn.
We will always invest more to ensure that every local school is a great school, and that no child in Canberra is left behind.

New and better schools
ACT Labor is committed to providing every family with access to a great local public school.
As Canberra continues to grow, ACT Labor will continue to deliver on our election commitments to build more school and invest in our world-class public education system.
We are building new and expanding schools in growing communities, and renewing the schools that Canberrans know and love right across the city.

Free preschool for all three-year-olds
We're making child care cheaper for Canberra families with free preschool for three year olds.
We recognise the importance of quality early childhood education and the impact it has on a child's lifelong development.
Children who participate in quality early learning programs are more likely to make a successful transition to school, stay longer in school and continue to further education.
Under the program, every three-year-old child in Canberra can access up to 300 hours a year of free early learning, saving the average family $1329.
ACT Labor will always invest in our children so they're given every opportunity to live a happy and healthy life.
Equal and universal access to early childhood education is one of our core values, it’s something we’ll always fight for.

Support for school families
ACT Labor believes every child in Canberra deserves a great education.
And a big part of that is being able to get the most out of their education journey. It means being able to go on school camp, wear a new uniform, try a new sport, or learn an instrument.
The Education Equity Fund - promised and delivered by ACT Labor, means that no matter their age or background, no child is left behind.
Join our campaign for Education Equity.

Equal access to technology
In 2016 we promised to make sure that every high school and college student would have equal access to the technology to support their learning. In 2018 we delivered on that promise giving over 17,000 laptops to ACT public school students for free.
Under Labor’s vision for improving digital education access, the ACT Government now provides free wifi routers and dongles for families that need it.
When it comes to education, we believe that no child should be left behind.

More support for our teachers
As Canberra continues to grow, ACT Labor has ensured that our public education system grows with it.
In 2020, we committed to hiring more than 400 teachers and support staff for ACT public schools and we have done that and more.
Teachers are the single most important factor to secure good educational outcomes for students.
ACT Teacher Scholarships program, is an initiative of the ACT Government to provide ACT public school teachers and school leaders with financial support to undertake further education, training and research.
