Infrastructure and Transport
Built for Canberra
As Canberra’s population nears half a million people, we are getting on with the job of building our city’s future.
We know what it takes to build the infrastructure a future Canberra will need. We built light rail for Canberra, we built the Canberra Hospital Expansion and we built the roads, the schools and the community facilities that have made our city a great place to live.
And Labor has a plan to keep building the infrastructure our city will need, from the local playgrounds and footpaths to the once-in-a-generation major projects that will define our city’s future.

Big builds for a growing city
Here are a few of the big projects we’re building right now.
- A new CIT Woden Campus
- The Canberra Hospital Expansion
- Light Rail to Commonwealth Park
- A new Canberra Theatre
- The Molonglo River Bridge
And we’re already getting on with planning for the new Northside Hospital, a new Convention Centre, a new or improved stadium, a major Entertainment Pavilion, and a new big events space at EPIC.

Light Rail
ACT Labor promised and delivered Light Rail from Gungahlin to the City, and ACT Labor is the only party that can and will deliver the next stage of the project.
ACT Labor took Canberra’s light rail network to two elections and Canberrans voted to build light rail. Our promise has now delivered more than 15 millions trips between Gungahlin and the City.
We have led the debate on light rail in Canberra for years because we believe in a great, accessible public transport network to keep Canberra moving as our city grows.

New schools
As the Territory continues to grow, ACT Labor is making sure that every local school is a great school
We have a plan for more than a billion dollars in public education funding over the coming decade, from new schools and major renovations at existing schools through to state-of-the-art skills and training facilities.
ACT Labor understands how important it is for families to have access to a local public school, where children can get a high quality education.

Shops, playgrounds and parks
Canberrans love their local shops, playgrounds and parks. They’re the heart of our suburbs where people gather to eat, live, work and play.
ACT Labor knows that investing in suburban infrastructure supports thriving communities and that’s why we’re continuing to upgrade these important facilities.
Over the last four years we’ve been upgrading shopping centres right across our city, we’re building new playgrounds and supporting community groups to take care of our local parks and gardens.
