Labor's new kerbside bulky waste collection for Canberra
A re-elected Labor Government will trial a new kerbside collection program in 20 suburbs across the north and south of Canberra from 2025.
The service provides a convenient way for households to dispose of unwanted materials from their home free of charge.
As part of this commitment, Labor will promote and support ‘Second Hand Sundays’ to encourage Canberrans to pick up these items for reuse.
This new service will encourage Canberrans to place their unwanted goods on their kerbside on a designated Sunday, with collections occurring on the Monday.
Where kerbside goods are not picked up by the community and collections occur, collection teams will still make an assessment about whether or not they can be reused or recycled.
This initiative is in addition to the existing booking based bulky waste service already available across the ACT.
The new kerbside collection program will further support efforts to reduce illegal dumping.
It joins other waste initiatives made available to Canberrans by Labor in Government, including the container deposit scheme, green bins for garden waste, and the Food and Organic Waste trial in Belconnen and Tuggeranong.
It’s part of our progressive, practical and proven plan for Canberra.
