Labor’s Plan for Belconnen

Belconnen has the largest population amongst Canberra’s regions. Labor has a plan to renew the schools, footpaths, shops, playgrounds and sport facilities that locals love, as we build the once-in-a-generation infrastructure for the future.

A re-elected Labor Government will deliver package of more than $20 million to renew Belconnen infrastructure and services over the next four years.

It includes a renewal of the rapidly growing Belconnen Town Centre, with an upgrade of Margaret Timpson Park. A re-elected Labor Government will build a new playground, a new public toilet, BBQs, picnic tables, landscaping, and accessible ramp to the park on the northern edge.

We’ll invest in the next stages of the Lake Ginninderra path upgrades, including around Diddams Close, the Ginninderra Drive bridge and along the western foreshore.

A re-elected Labor Government will build a new, all-abilities public playground in Florey. We will also upgrade the playground and public toilet in Umbagong Park and build a new playground in McKellar.

We’ll also work with Charnwood Dunlop School to deliver a new all-abilities playground at the school.

We’ll continue upgrading local shops in Belconnen, working with the owners of Kippax Fair to deliver stage two of upgrades and a premier, revitalised shopping precinct for West Belconnen. We’ll also deliver stage two of upgrades at Charnwood shops following recently completed works.

Labor will set up a $5 million fund to invest in better footpaths across BelconnenThis will make Belconnen suburbs more accessible and better connected.

Labor’s plan for Belconnen also includes improved public transport. We will increase services on the popular R2 service between Belconnen and Fyshwick via the City and we’ll establish a new West Belconnen Rapid Service linking Ginninderry to the City. To support this new service, we’ll build a new park and ride carpark for passengers.

To support young families in Belconnen’s newest suburbs, we’re building a brand new early childhood education and care centre and primary school in Strathnairn. We’ll also continue revitalising schools across Belconnen. Right now, Labor is upgrading 15 Belconnen public and early childhood schools to make sure they remain great places to learn.

A re-elected Labor Government is planning for a major investment into the Bruce Health, Education & Sports precinct. The precinct will include a new Northside Hospital, an upgraded CIT Belconnen and a new Canberra Stadium, which will complement the Commonwealth's major upgrade of the AIS Sports precinct.

It’s all part of our practical, proven and progressive plan for Canberra.
