Labor's plan for better services in every suburb
Labor has a plan to invest in new and renewed infrastructure right across Canberra.
Labor promised and delivered the Belconnen Bikeway, making it easier for people to get around Belconnen Town Centre and providing better links to the suburbs.
We’ll build on this by starting the construction of the West Belconnen Bikeway, connecting suburbs in West Belconnen with the Belconnen Town Centre and the city.
The West Belconnen Bikeway is one of many projects in Labor’s plan to improve cycling and walking paths across Canberra.
This includes the Garden City Cycleway linking Watson to the City, a new path from Hall Village to Gungahlin, major improvements to the Lake Tuggeranong path and completing the path widening around Lake Ginninderra.
Across Canberra, we will invest more than $120 million to build and renew the infrastructure the community needs and improve the things locals love.
This includes:
- 12 new playgrounds
- Seven local shop upgrades
- Five new public toilets
- Over $24 million on new and improved footpaths
- Improvements at local libraries
- Ongoing road maintenance and resurfacing
- Street light improvements
A re-elected Labor Government will also continue to provide Canberra households with options to better manage their household waste by providing options for Canberrans to order larger green bins.
We will also explore expanding the Container Deposit Scheme to include more eligible items.
As our city grows, we will also grow our city services workforce. A re-elected Labor Government will hire more trainees and apprentices into our city services team to ensure they are prepared to respond to the changing needs of the city.
Labor will always invest in the services and infrastructure our city needs. It’s part of our progressive, practical and proven plan for Canberra.
