Canberra’s south is the key to the success of our city.
Almost half of all Canberrans live south of the lake, and many of our new jobs are in Woden, Tuggeranong and the Inner South.
This is why some of our biggest infrastructure projects are on the southside.
We’re getting on with the job of extending light rail south to Woden. Further stages will see light rail through to Mawson and Tuggeranong.
ACT Labor's plan for Canberra's southside
We will open the Weston Creek walk-in centre later this year, while the new campus at The Canberra Hospital will bring world-class healthcare to the heart of Woden.
This follows our move of 4,000 ACT public servants into Woden Town Centre in recent years to help local businesses.
We know that some of the infrastructure built during the 1960s and 1970s is ageing, which is why we’ll invest significantly in renewing this infrastructure over the next few years.
We will revitalise Tuggeranong Town Centre along Anketell Street, through its existing laneways and along the lake.
We’ll upgrade major roads to make them safer and easier to drive on.
This includes major road and intersection upgrades on the Monaro Highway, the duplication of Athllon Drive and other major roads, to cut travel times for people in Tuggeranong, Woden, Weston and Molonglo.
The ACT Labor Government will continue to plan and deliver a smart city because that is what Canberrans deserve.
This is in glaring contrast to the Opposition leader and most conservative parliamentary party in the country, who have no plan for this city.
